Celebrating NAIDOC Week

August 7, 2019

NAIDOC Week (7 – 14 July) was the perfect time to launch our Reconciliation Action Plan which represents Foundation Housing’s commitment to taking both symbolic and practical steps towards ensuring that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have the same access to opportunities available to all Australians.

During the week we took part in three events around the state; NAIDOC celebrations in Midland, a family day at Ashfield Reserve in Bassendean and in Broome’s NAIDOC celebrations at Male Oval. At the Perth events our staff engaged with visitors to our stall through a children’s activity and by providing information about accessing community housing.

As a community housing provider a RAP is an especially important initiative for us to pursue given that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people make up 15% of our current tenant base. By embarking on this plan, we believe that we can positively contribute to closing the gap and help to provide equal access to opportunities, particularly to access affordable housing.
