David’s Grin of Gratitude: How Partnerships Can Change Lives

October 12, 2023

Accessing support services can be critical to your physical and mental wellbeing, especially if you are on a low income or experiencing issues in your life that make it difficult to find such services.

Foundation Housing recently partnered with the Australian Dental Health Foundation and the Oral Centre of Western Australia to provide 13 residents with dental treatment that they otherwise would not have been able to afford. This was done through a program called ‘Dental Rescue’ where volunteer dentists and support staff donate their time, skills and practice facilities to provide treatment at no cost to patients. They can offer treatments such as check-ups, x-rays, fillings, extractions and pain relief.

David lives at Swan River Lodge in Bassendean and was lucky enough to be one of these residents. Our Community Engagement Team reached out to David as they knew he wasn’t able to afford regular dental treatment. He was excited to take up the opportunity to have his oral hygiene and teeth looked at by a professional.

In August, David attended his appointment and was able to have treatment that has protected his teeth from worsening decay and serious infection. David is thrilled with the results and the service he received.

“I wouldn’t have gone to the dentist otherwise because I don’t have the money, but I knew I needed to,” David said.
