Financial help for kids to join sport clubs

September 13, 2017

It’s the time of the year when many sporting clubs are taking registrations for the summer season.  Signing your child up to play a sport can be expensive, but there is help for parents and caregivers.

KidSport enables eligible Western Australian children aged 5 to18 years to participate in community sport and recreation by offering them financial assistance of up to $200 per calendar year towards club fees.   All Western Australian children aged 5 to 18 with a valid Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card are eligible for KidSport.

An activity like Surf Lifesaving’s Nippers is a great option with nearly all WA Surf Life Saving clubs participating in the program. Nippers is a great way for kids to gain water confidence and develop vital surf skills and, because it’s at the beach, inexpensive to attend.  Some non-sporting activities such as Scouts, also participate in the KidSport program.
