Here are answers to some of the commonly asked questions by Lodging Residents. If the information you need isn’t here, please speak with your Lodging Coordinator.
Foundation Housing provides single people with accommodation in our Lodging Houses. Residents have their own secure, furnished room but share communal facilities like bathrooms and kitchens. Our lodges range from 4 rooms to 192 rooms and are managed by a Lodging Coordinator and a live-in caretaker. Our lodges are either mixed or male/female only. To be eligible, you must be over 24 years old and in receipt of a regular income such as Centrelink payments or wages that do not exceed $1,746 per fortnight. You must be willing to adibe by the terms of the License to Occupy and House Rules and be able to live communally and independently with support if needed. You must be an Australia Citizen or permanent resident, be in WA at the time of application/allocation and not own any property. See Options & Eligibility.
Lodging is accommodation is a single room only, in a building sharing the facilities with other residents such as kitchen, bathroom and laundry. Lodging residents have to abide by the House Rules and can receive additional support to sustain their accommodation. Lodging accommodation has a live-in caretaker. Mainstream accommodation is a self contained property which is a protected under the Residential Tenancies Act 1987.
We accept referrals from key support agencies such as Alma St Centre, Outcare, St Barts, 55 Central, St Pats, Zonta House and UnitingCare West. We also accept self-referrals weekly at our Metro office on Tuesdays between 9am – 11am and in the Fremantle office on Wednesdays between 10am – 12pm. See How to Apply for more details.
You will be asked a few questions to determine if our accommodation is suitable to your needs. You will need to bring photo ID and proof of residence, confirmation of income (Centrelink statement or wage slips), any support letters and your contract details.
If eligible, you will be placed on a wait list until a vacancy becomes available. When we contact you with an offer to view a room, you will need to view the room within 24 hours from the offer and if you accept the room, a sign up appointment will be made within three days of the offer. You will be advised of the move in costs by the Lodging Coordinator which must be paid on the day of sign up appointment (EFT available – no cash payment will be accepted). We make up to two offers of accommodation in the suburb of your choice. If you decline an offer of accommodation twice without reasonable explanation you will be removed from the wait list for six months.
Rent is assessed according to your income, size of room and includes a charge for utilities such as water, electricity and gas. See Your Rent for more details.

You can apply to transfer to another lodge if you have maintained a good residency history for three months or longer. This means you must have had satisfactory room inspections, no arrears on your rent account and you have received no breaches or warnings of House Rules or your Licence to Occupy.
Under the Licence to Occupy, three days notice in writing is needed to terminate the agreement.
