Sabrina Hahn’s heart felt design for Bennett St

Well known Perth Master gardener, Sabrina Hahn from Hort with Heart, was contracted to design and install the soft landscaping at Bennett St. The complex features a large ground floor communal outdoor area and a terrace on the sixth floor that will provide additional outdoor connection for tenants living on the higher floors of the ten storey building. Both areas featured extensive planter boxes that required filling with plants suited to the unusual position.

Ms Hahn’s interest in using gardens to promote wellbeing and social inclusion, and also sustainability, made her an obvious choice to design and deliver this unique city space that will become the ‘back yard’ of the 70 people who are making it their home.

The gardens now feature a mix of native species, flowering plants, citrus trees and herbs.  A special feature is an advanced Irish Strawberry Tree and shrubs that flower in either orange or white.  These have been chosen as a living memorial to the two Irish workers who were sadly killed in an accident on the site during  construction.

Ms Hahn and Foundation Housing hope to work together on a number of garden related tenant wellbeing projects in the near future.
