We’ve joined forces with peak housing group, Shelter WA, to host a community forum in Broome about affordable housing in the town on 29 May. Foundation Housing’s CEO Kathleen Gregory and CEO of Shelter WA, Michelle Mackenzie will lead a conversation with local service providers about what housing strategies have worked well in the town and what still needs to be done to ensure everyone has a place to call home in Broome.
Michelle will present housing data compiled by Shelter WA, while Kathleen will discuss Foundation Housing’s 10 year history in the West Kimberley and how recent partnerships with community service organisations are having a positive impact on the lives of the people it houses at its Frederick Street complex.
“We’ve established ourselves as part of the Broome housing continuum, and we want to make sure we remain a valued partner by continuing to seek feedback as widely as possible from the community about what is needed there,” Kathleen Gregory said.
Representatives from the Department of Communities, NBY and Centacare Kimberley will also be talking about their experience of supporting people in housing need in Broome.
The community forum is a free event that specifically aims to
– hear about what housing programs have been successful and why
– identify where there is still unmet need and what the possible solutions may be, and
– learn where advocacy and policy should now be focused.
Participants can register for the free forum by visiting the event’s webpage.
