Foundation Housing was pleased to be a sponsor of Tenants’ Day at this year’s WA Tenancy Conference.
As part of our sponsorship we were able to send a small group of our tenants went along to Day 1 of the conference where they learnt about tenant rights, best practices in tenant advocacy and also wellbeing skills. This year’s conference explored mental health and tenancy, with the WA Association for Mental Health co-conveners of the conference. One of the positive outcomes of the day was a plan to form a tenant advocate group here in WA. The day was capped off with a performance from the Spirit of the Streets Choir.
On Day 2 of the conference our Director of Tenant Services, Tom Tolchard and Tenancy WA’s Principal Solicitor Kate Davis lead a workshop that aimed to bust some myths around the roles of both housing managers – such as Foundation Housing – and tenant advocates. The important lesson from the session was that both parties are ultimately seeking the same outcome, sustaining successful tenancies, and that they should view each other as allies rather than adversaries when issues arise in tenancies.
