Water Corp programs to help paying utilities

July 16, 2018

If you’re having trouble paying your water bill, the Water Corporation can help. It has recently implemented three new programs to help people struggling to pay their bills or who have a specific medical condition. These programs are:

  • Start Over – Assisting customers in hardship with a long-term outstanding debt over $5000. The Water Corporation will match a customer’s payments over a two-year period and then clear any outstanding debt. The Water Corporation provides a reference for a financial counsellor and puts the customer in touch with one in their local area.
  • Time Assist – Putting bills on hold for up to three months for people who have a consistent payment history but a recent event, such as being unable to work due to injury, results in them being unable to pay.
  • Medical Assist – Providing households that have a family member with kidney disease who is undertaking home dialysis with an allowance of up to 180,000 litres of water free of charge each year.

The eligibility of people for these assistance programs is judged on a case-by-case basis by the Water Corporation. Any enquiries about the programs should be made to the Water Corporation by their billing information line on 1300 659 752.
