Foundation Housing’s biggest project to date, the ten-storey, 70 unit apartment complex on Bennett St, East Perth is complete on time and under budget, with a number of tenants already moving into their new homes.
The $26mil project saw the demolition of an old 12 room lodging house on the Foundation Housing owned site and replaced with a building that will set a new standard for affordable inner city housing delivery.
There are 17 one bedroom units and 52 studio apartments, with extensive communal facilities that will help create a sense of community and social inclusion for the people living there.
All studio rooms are fully self-contained – an important move away from single rooms with shared facilities. Tenants must meet the social and community housing income limits to qualify to live there, with some coming from the joint social housing wait list and some others transferring from other Foundation Housing properties.
The building was designed by JCY Architects and Urban Designers, project managed by NS Projects and built by Jaxon Construction. Foundation Housing funded the project with a $1.7mil contribution from the WA Housing Authority.
