$1.91 million grant to revitalise Broome Lodge for tenants

April 30, 2026

Foundation Housing has welcomed a $1.91 million grant from the Western Australian Government to refurbish 55 social housing units at our Broome Lodge in Djugun.

The funding will support a major upgrade program designed to improve the safety, accessibility and overall living conditions for residents, ensuring the homes remain fit-for-purpose for years to come.

Broome Lodge consists of 55 one-bedroom units and is home to a diverse group of tenants, including people who benefit from accessible and supportive living environments.

The refurbishment works will include:

  • Kitchen and bathroom upgrades
  • Internal and external painting
  • Roof works and fencing improvements
  • Landscaping enhancements
  • Stair safety upgrades
  • Car park resurfacing and line marking
  • Accessibility improvements to support tenants with limited mobility

These upgrades will significantly enhance the comfort, functionality and safety of the homes, while also extending the life of the property.

Foundation Housing CEO Chris Smtih said the funding represents an important investment in regional housing and in the wellbeing of tenants.

“This funding allows us to deliver meaningful improvements that will make a real difference to our tenants’ day-to-day lives.

Broome Lodge is an important part of the local community, and these upgrades will ensure residents have safe, secure, and affordable homes now and into the future.”

The project forms part of the State Government’s broader investment in housing and homelessness initiatives, aimed at ensuring more Western Australians have access to secure and appropriate housing.

Works will commence in early May, with careful planning to minimise disruption to tenants throughout the refurbishment process.

Foundation Housing will work closely with residents throughout the project to ensure the upgrades are delivered with care and minimal disruption.
