Foundation Housing has proudly celebrated 10 years of Bennett Street, a milestone that recognises a decade of providing safe, secure and affordable accommodation while creating a place where people can rebuild their lives, form lasting connections and find a true sense of belonging.
The celebration brought together tenants, government representatives, civic leaders, sector partners, Board members, staff and supporters to reflect on the impact Bennett Street Lodge has had over the past decade and the many people who have contributed to its success.
The event opened with the premiere of a special video, capturing the voices of those who know Bennett Street best. Through heartfelt reflections from tenants, Foundation Housing CEO Chris Smith, Board members and staff, the stories shared were a powerful reminder that housing is about far more than providing a roof over someone’s head.
For many tenants, Bennett Street Lodge represents a new beginning, a second chance and a forever home. It is a place where people have rebuilt their confidence, strengthened their independence and become part of a genuine community within a community.
Throughout the celebration, speakers reflected on the importance of putting people at the centre of their own journey. They spoke about the life-changing impact of safe and secure housing, the importance of strong support systems, and creating opportunities for people to make their own choices and shape their own future.
Foundation Housing was honoured to welcome Matthew McGuire for a heartfelt Welcome to Country, alongside Hon. Lauren Cayoun MLC, representing the Hon. John Carey MLA, Minister for Housing and Works, Hon. Patrick Gorman MP, City of Perth Lord Mayor Bruce Reynolds, City of Perth Deputy Lord Mayor David Goncalves, and Shelter WA CEO Kath Snell, whose reflections reinforced the importance of collaboration in creating housing solutions that change lives.
The celebration also recognised the dedication of Foundation Housing’s staff, Board, partners and supporters who have helped shape Bennett Street Lodge over the past decade. Together, they have created more than housing, they have created a place where people feel safe, supported and connected.
As Foundation Housing looks to the future, Bennett Street Lodge remains a powerful example of what’s possible when quality housing is paired with compassion, partnership and opportunity. Because when people have a place to call home and the support to thrive, lives are transformed, communities grow stronger, and more people have the opportunity to build the future they choose.
