The month kicked off with a Brekkie BBQ, where residents enjoyed each other’s company while indulging in delicious bacon, sausage, and egg rolls. This year, the BBQ carried the empowering theme of “Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud, and Proud” to celebrate NAIDOC Week. The event was nothing short of a success, with 40 residents and staff members gathering to engage with each other and culture.
The Broome Lodge team put in an incredible effort to ensure the celebrations were memorable. A brilliant suggestion by resident John led to a mouth-watering feast featuring homemade roast pork with crackling, veggies, roast potatoes and pumpkin, all topped with gravy and apple sauce. Dessert was a highlight, with caretaker Lyndsay baking Aboriginal Australian iced cupcakes, and caretaker Tony creating a decadent self-saucing chocolate sponge.
The residents who attended expressed gratitude for the staff’s hard work. The collaboration and dedication shown by the Broome team not only brought the community together but also strengthened the bonds between residents and staff, embodying the spirit of NAIDOC Week.
