Celebrating Progress on Our Kenwick SDA Project with Ability WA

Together, we are building more than housing — we are building futures.

July 3, 2025

We were proud to recently celebrate a significant milestone in the delivery of our newest Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) project in Kenwick, a transformative partnership between Foundation Housing and Ability WA.

This project represents far more than bricks and mortar — it’s about dignity, inclusion, and ensuring people with disability have access to quality housing that enables them to live the lives they choose and age in place.

A Home for Life in the Community They Know

The future residents of this development currently live just a few blocks away in an ageing building that no longer meets their needs. This new SDA project has been purpose-built to support people with high and complex needs, ensuring they can continue living safely and comfortably in the community they know.

Importantly, the new homes have been designed to allow residents to age in place, offering long-term housing security in a modern, accessible environment that supports their independence and wellbeing.

Partnership and Progress Worth Celebrating

The on-site celebration event brought together project partners, local government and key stakeholders to mark the progress of this important build.

We were honoured to be joined by several dignitaries, including the honourable Matt Keogh MP, Federal Member for Burt and Ron Sao MLA, Member for Cannington, who spoke on behalf of Hannah Beazley MLA, Minister for Disability Services, about the importance of fit for purpose and future-focused housing solutions. Their presence along with Deputy Mayor Williamson, reinforced the significant impact this project will have, both for the individuals who will live here and as a model for future SDA developments.

The event provided a meaningful opportunity to acknowledge the efforts of everyone who has contributed to the project’s success so far.

Built for Purpose, with People at the Centre

Every element of the Kenwick SDA has been designed with the resident in mind — from private courtyards and assistive technology features to ensuite bathrooms, wide corridors, and high-quality finishes that offer both functionality and comfort. The development also ensures easy access to nearby amenities, public transport, and health services, creating a truly connected and supportive environment.

Foundation Housing and Ability WA share a deep commitment to creating housing that goes beyond shelter — housing that enables choice, supports independence, and strengthens community ties.

Ability WA will deliver tailored support services within the residences, including though day-to-day activities, personal support, and community engagement. This approach ensures residents are empowered to realise their abilities while receive the support they need to live as independently as possible in a familiar and supportive community.

Looking Ahead

As construction progresses toward completion, we look forward to welcoming the residents into their new homes and seeing the positive outcomes this project will generate for years to come.

We thank everyone who has been part of the journey — from architects and builders to support teams, government partners, and most importantly, the future residents who have shared their insights and hopes with us along the way.

Together, we are building more than housing — we are building futures.
